Election Observation Trainers
Centre for Media and Society (CEMESO) | 2027 General Election
The Centre for Media and Society (CEMESO) invites applications from qualified and interested individuals to participate in a Training of Trainers (ToT) Programme for Election Observers ahead of the forthcoming General Elections.
This initiative seeks to strengthen credible, timely, and evidence-based documentation of the electoral process, while promoting media freedom, electoral integrity, and citizens’ access to accurate and verified information.
Who Can Apply
Applicants should meet the following criteria:
- Possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Social Sciences or another relevant field from a recognised institution.
- Have at least three (3) years’ experience in training, facilitation, mentoring, capacity building, or related activities, preferably involving adult learning methodologies.
- Have previous experience in election observation, preferably across one or more electoral cycles.
- Demonstrate a sound understanding of electoral processes and election observation principles.
- Possess strong presentation, facilitation, communication, interpersonal, and mentoring skills.
- Be proficient in the use of smartphones, digital reporting tools, mobile data-collection applications, and digital communication platforms.
- Possess a smartphone and laptop with reliable internet access to support communication, reporting, and training activities.
- Be fluent in English and, where applicable, at least one major language spoken in the assigned State (e.g., Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, or Nigerian Pidgin).
- Be resident in the capital of the assigned State and have a strong understanding of the State’s local context and socio-cultural dynamics.
- Be available to participate fully in the ToT, orientation sessions, observer training, and subsequent coordination activities.
- Be willing to comply with CEMESO’s Code of Conduct, election observation guidelines, safeguarding requirements, and confidentiality provisions.
Note: Previous election observation experience will be considered an added advantage.
Selection Process
Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted. Selection will be based on a competitive assessment of applicants’ qualifications, experience, availability, and suitability for the role, considering:
- Relevant professional and election-related experience, including civic engagement activities.
- Knowledge of relevant electoral laws, INEC procedures, and election technology (including BVAS and IReV).
- Demonstrated understanding of gender-sensitive, inclusive, and rights-based approaches to election observation.
- Training and facilitation experience, particularly designing or delivering capacity-building programmes for adults.
- Geographical coverage requirements, including residence and familiarity with the assigned State.
