RECRUITMENT OF PROGRAMME OFFICER- FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION
The Institute for Media and Society (IMS) is an independent, non-governmental organization based in Nigeria. It aims to help build and improve the communication capacity and environment of the media, civil society and governance institutions to facilitate improved participation in democracy and development in Nigeria.
The Institute intends to recruit a Programme Officer into its Freedom of Expression Programme.
Position Location: Lagos, Nigeria
Length of contract: One (1) year with possibility to renew for a second year
Duties and Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development of freedom of expression advocacy programme
- Participate in the development of material resources for programme implementation
- Maintain a database of human and material resources for project implementation
- Plan and conduct project activities
- Report on project activities
- Support project communications and visibility.
- Support project monitoring, evaluation and learning
- Perform related tasks as assigned.
Competencies
- Understanding of freedom of expression issues and institutions locally and internationally
- Familiarity with developments in the Freedom of Expression sector.
- Strong skills in freedom of expression advocacy
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong analytical, writing and reporting skills
Qualifications and Experience
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication or related fields including Languages, Linguistics, Political Science or Development Studies.
- A higher degree will be an added asset
Experience:
- A minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in journalism practice, human rights advocacy or related development work.
- Good field record
Language Requirements:
- Fluency in both spoken and written English
