The Presidential Initiative for the Northeast (PCNI) has commenced training of 40 new media users on countering hate messages on various platforms with that of hope and tolerance in Yobe and the rest of the North-East.
The Vice Chairman, PCNI, Alhaji Tijjani Tumsah, said yesterday at the inauguration of a three-day workshop in Damaturu that the workshop would build the capacity of participants on effective ways of reporting Yobe to promote hope, dignity of life and harmony between people in the state “as we confront the common enemy of peaceful coexistence in the region.”
He said terrorist groups have come to realise the power of the new media and were using it effectively to deceive people, particularly youths. “We must rise to the challenge through our reportage on the same platform to counter the messages of hate with the massages of hope and tolerance,” Tumsah said.
The key facilitator of the programme, Mista Henry K, said there was huge challenge on how some media outfits were reporting Yobe relying on social media posts that misinformed the public.
