JOB OPPORTUNITIES

The Centre for Media and Society invites applications from interested persons to the following positions in our organisation:

The Centre is an independent, non-governmental organization based in Nigeria.

 

  1. PROGRAMME OFFICER

Duties and Responsibilities

i. Design (or support the design of) content or curriculum for project activities

ii. Develop (or support the development of) materials required for project activities.

iii. Select participants, venues etc for project activities.

iv. Select resource persons/facilitators for project activities.

v. Prepare and follow-up on contracts for project activities.

vi. Conduct project activities

vii. Report on project activities

viii. Maintain a database of human and material resources for project activities

ix. Support project communications and visibility, monitoring and evaluation activities.

x. Perform related work as assigned.

Competencies

  1. Familiarity with institutions and developments in the Nigerian media industry.
  2. Familiarity with media capacity-building practices in the Nigerian environment.
  3. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  4. Strong analytical, writing and reporting skill.
  5. Ability to share knowledge and experience
  6. Ability to plan, organize and report on work.

Qualifications and Experience

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication or related fields including Languages, Linguistics, Politics Science or Development Studies, etc.

A higher degree will be an advantage

Experience:

A minimum of six (6) years of professional experience in journalism practice, research or training or other areas of development work.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in both spoken and written English
  • Skill in any Nigerian (indigenous) language will be an asset.

 

  1. ASSISTANT PROGRAMME OFFICER

Duties and Responsibilities

i. Support the design of program and activities

ii. Support the development of resource materials etc required for project activities.

iii.       Assist the planning of project activities.

iv. Prepare and follow-up on contracts for project activities.

v. Assist the Conduct project activities.

vi. Report on project activities

vii.     Support the maintenance of a database of human and material resources for project activities

viii.   Support project communications and visibility, monitoring and evaluation activities.

ix.      Perform related work as assigned.

 

Competencies

  1. Familiarity with institutions and developments in the Nigerian media industry.

  1. FINANCE OFFICER

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Keep accurate records for all daily transactions
  2. Process invoices

iii.       Record accounts payable and accounts receivable

  1. Update internal systems with financial data
  2. Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports
  3. Reconcile bank statements

vii.       Participate in financial audits

viii.     Track bank deposits and payments

  1. Assist with budget preparation
  2. Review and implement financial policies
  3. Perform other tasks assigned

Competencies:

  1. Familiarity with developments in the Nigerian finance sector.
  2. Strong interpersonal and communication skills

iii.       Strong  financial management and reporting skills

  1. Ability to co-ordinate project finance teams effectively

 

Qualifications and Experience

Education:

A Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma in Accounting.

An industry-based professional qualification or higher degree will be an asset.

Experience:

  • A minimum of six (6) years professional experience in the finance industry, part of which would have been in the development work sector.
  • Good track record in working in the finance and administration of development projects.

 

 

  1. ASSISTANT FINANCE OFFICER

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Support the project’s financial management, reporting, accounting, disbursements, records-keeping and related matters.
  2. Processes payments and documents such as invoices, journal vouchers employee reimbursements, and statements.

iii.       Verifies items billed against items ordered and received and reconciles differences through follow-up with the vendor and /or other employees.

  1. Posts financial data to appropriate accounts in an automated accounting system, according to instructions.
  2. Reviews on-line transactions for changes and accuracy and corrects errors.
  3. Disburses funds using petty cash and makes change according to specific instructions.

vii. Performs related work as assigned.

Competencies

  1. Familiarity will organizational financial system
  2. Ability to work effectively in a team.
  3. Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  4. Good financial reporting skills

Qualifications and Experience

Education:

A Bachelor’s degree or Higher Diploma in Accounting.

Experience:

A minimum of four (4) years professional experience in the finance or development sector.

Language Requirement:

Fluency in both spoken and written English.

 NOTE

Duration of Contract: Successful applicants for each position will be offered a job contract valid for two(2) years but  renewable
