The MEiN analysis for February 2024 highlighted the prevalence of themes such as attacks and judicial actions in news stories. Attacks emerged as the predominant focus, comprising 50% of thematic areas, with security agencies often portrayed as the primary threats to press freedom. The media were identified as the sole victims, but the impact extended to others caught in the crossfire. To address this issue, stakeholders must take decisive action by reinforcing protective measures and engaging in dialogue with security agencies. Additionally, efforts in regulatory, legislative, and judicial spaces are crucial to promoting accurate and fair practices, ensuring a vibrant and free society in Nigeria.
