In August 2024, as Nigerians protested against government policies, journalists faced significant threats while covering the demonstrations. The latest Media Expression in Nigeria (MEiN) Report reveals that 94% of the reported incidents involved attacks on journalists, with security forces responsible for 61.1% of these. Non-state actors, such as thugs, accounted for 33.3% of attacks. A total of 31 media-related attacks were recorded, including threats and kidnappings.
