The Centre for Media and Society (CEMESO) is proud to present a groundbreaking documentary, Stories from The Shutdown, which captures the experiences of individuals and communities affected by mandated internet disruptions in Nigeria between 2021 and 2022.

This documentary highlights the critical issue of internet shutdowns and their impact on the freedom of expression (FOE) and access to information (I) during crises. It includes firsthand accounts from victims of communication disruptions and expert insights from key stakeholders, shedding light on the far-reaching implications of such actions on Nigeria’s socio-political landscape.

As part of the IFEX Right to Information Grant project, this activity aligns with our mission to advocate for stronger safeguards for FOE & I rights, particularly in times of crisis and conflict. By documenting these stories, we aim to drive further advocacy efforts, raise awareness, and strengthen resilience within Nigeria’s FOE & I community.
